CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Crisis Management | SAFE SKILLS

An increasing number of laws around the world require that companies to ensure they are identifying and preparing for any number of emergency incidents which might occur and setting appropriate policies and procedures up in advance in order to be able to prevent, detect, and effectively respond. Planning in advance of an incident is encouraged as it can help enable a quicker and more effective response in the event of an unpredictable and dynamic situation by providing a clear policy/procedural emergency response, setting priorities and fostering effective communication. Advance planning and training helps ensure everyone knows what to do when an incident occurs.

WHAT IS CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Crisis Management generally consists of a process of identifying risks, protecting the organization and its people from those risks, detecting risks as they materialize or become more likely, responding to detected risks and incidents, and recovering to reestablish normal operations following an incident.

One must prepare for a variety of different types of incidents with different causes such as extreme weather (i.e. earthquake, fire flood, tornado, tsunami, volcanic eruption), a chemical incident/accident (i.e. chemical spill or gas release), a threat or act of violence (i.e. workplace violence, criminal act, terrorist acts such as bomb threats, threats of violence, robbery/theft, hijacking), an accident (bus, car, plane or train accident), a cyber-attack (i.e. data breach, denial of service, ransomware) or some combination of the above.

Therefore, when thinking about organizational security, it is helpful to take a holistic approach and consider different aspects of physical safety and security for infrastructure (i.e. buildings, computers, and other physical assets), personnel, and cyber assets (i.e. data, networks, and information). In addition, organizations must plan for incidents which may occur in various locations such as on site, off site, during travel and virtual.

We can help your organization design and develop a crisis management program aligned with your organizations business strategy, culture, and values. Our subject matter experts can build a comprehensive solution, aligned with your specific needs and global best practices all while based on your current capabilities.

A crisis or disaster exposes an organization to significant liabilities, loss of reputation and may even threaten its very existence. The best crisis management programs anticipate worst-case scenarios, such as an active shooting event, define appropriate chains of command, lines of communication, protocols and identify best practices.
